How to Liven Up Your Space with Indoor Plants

You know how sometimes, when you’re decorating (or redecorating) your home, you feel like you’ve got everything you want and need and, yet, somehow the space still feels bare? One of my favorite ways to spruce up any space in my home that looks and feels naked to me is to add a bit of greenery here and there. I find that adding touches of green can really freshen up any space, be it in the living room, the bedroom, or even the bathroom. Not sure where and how to start? Here are some tips on how to liven up your space with indoor plants.

  1. Start with low-maintenance indoor plants – there are tons of indoor plants that you can choose from if you want to start adding them to your home. However, to give your home the aesthetic value you wish to get out of them, you have to keep them alive. If you’re a beginner, it’s best to start with low-maintenance indoor plants or ones that don’t need a lot of attention to grow and thrive. Different kinds of cactus are great for starters, but you can search for other types of plants, too.
  2. Plant kitchen herbs – if you think plants have nothing but aesthetic value to offer, think again! You can plant herbs in your kitchen if you prefer something that will both make your space look good and also have something to give you in return. You’ll not only freshen up the look in your kitchen but you might be able to improve your cooking as well.
  3. Use an empty window sill to hold your plants – one thing that holds people back from adding plants in their homes is the common misconception that you need a lot of space to grow plants. This is false. You can grow plants in spaces as small as an empty window sill. Infact, it would be even better for them so they can get enough sunlight.
  4. Jump on the succulent bandwagon – succulents are perfect for indoor use. They’re low-maintenance, as mentioned in #1, and they’re really pretty, too. Plus, a lot of succulents are great for cleaning the air so you can place them in spaces like the bedroom and the bathroom. There are many types of succulents, some bear flowers while others are plainly green. Whatever your preference is, there will surely be one for you.
  5. Go for faux plants – if you’re desperate to add some greenery into your home but you know you don’t have a green thumb, it’s alright to use faux plants. Try to splurge on the more realistic looking ones. They’ll prettify your place better than the cheap ones that look obviously plastic.
