Steps on Making Your Own Washer-Dryer Pedestal

Aside from these, you also need some important tools such as a measuring tape, square, pencils, safety glasses, a drill, the orbital sander, circular and miter saw and much more. Furthermore, you should not forget to have your protective gear on if  you are planning to work on this project for long periods.

Aside from those mentioned above, you should also have these bonus materials in order to successfully make your pedestal without a hitch. Some of these materials are as follows:

  • Brad Nailer
  • Level
  • Countersink Drill Bit

Procedure

Now that you have all the materials that you will need, you can now proceed to the construction proper. The first thing that you need to remember when it comes to making your own pedestal for the washer and dryer would be the measurements. You have to make sure that the pedestal will definitely fit the machine itself.

Next, you have to rebuild some of the flooring for this project. To do this, you need glue and some 3 inch screws. Look at the diagram above to see how it’s done. Basically, you need to create double mini floors for the pedestal as well as center joists which can be placed at the bottom floor. However, this last part is optional.

The next step that you should focus on is decking. You can do this by screwing the plywood on top of the two by fours.

After this, you can start creating the corner angles. You can do this if you have an old washing machine that has the tendency to be easily pushed out of the laundry room whenever it’s overloaded. Do not worry because the angles are usually very cheap and affordable. You can use 2 inch screws to screw down your machine.

Attach the legs by using the floor with the most support and screw it down. To add more security and safety, add more screws and pin the machine to the walls and floors.

Now, for the bottom floor, you just have to screw down and use some glue for the machine to be fastened more securely.

For the trim, you have to make sure that it fits the legs exactly. To do this, you need to get the exact measurements of the legs. Use tape measure. In addition, you have to miter the trim around the legs for a perfect fit.

For a more finished look, you can use another layer of plywood for the pedestal. You can use a table saw and wood filler for this.
