Decorating on a Budget: Holiday Edition Tips

by Anjelina · December 18, 2018

There are only a few days before Christmas and, yet, some people still don’t have their decorations up. I know not everyone can be bougie when it comes to decorating their homes for the holidays, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make your house look nice. Here are some tips for decorating on a budget during the holidays.

  1. Reuse old decorations – there’s nothing wrong with using decorations from the previous years so if they still look nice, go ahead and use them. You might need to update some pieces but it’s still cheaper than buying new ones.
  2. Get your creative juices running – if you’re the creative type, you shouldn’t have a problem with decorating your home on a budget at all. There are tons of DIYable decor that you can make and most of these don’t cost too much at all. Some of these might even help you recycle some junk you have lying around the house.
  3. Visit cheap stores – another way to decorate your home on a budget is to scour cheap stores like dollar stores and thrift shops. There are lots of cute items to be found here that you can use to decorate your home and you can get them on the cheap.
  4. Light ‘er up – another really inexpensive way to make your home look festive for the holidays without burning a hole in your pocket is to use lights. Lights always have a way of making spaces look magical so use them to your advantage! Don’t limit yourself to light bulbs and string lights, too. You can also set the mood with candles and lamps.
  5. Pick your color scheme – if you’re buying decor and you don’t want to go over budget, deciding on a solid color scheme can help. This way, you’ll know what items will work in the overall look you’re planning and you won’t be wasting your money on items that will be left unused anyway.
  6. Decorate with plants – holiday or not, adding plants to your home is a surefire way to add an aura of freshness and sophistication to your home. For the holidays, add pops of festive colors throughout your home using flowers.
  7. Focus on one area – if your budget is really tight, focus on decorating one area instead of the whole house. Choose the area that you would consider a focal point or one where you often have people in and keep the rest of the house bare.
